Good old Air Canada

I'm in Germany now, Frankfurt to be precise. Arrived here 4 or 5 hours late due to the quality service of Air Canada. We left Toronto on time, but as we were somewhere over Quebec, the Captain announced that there was some air pocket or some problem with hot air and hydrolics in one of the engines - so we turned around and went back to Toronto.

To make things exciting, the pilot announced that we had to land on the long runway because we were carrzing an incredible amount of fuel, and required the whole length to slow down. So we were greeted by all the emergencz vehicles on the runwaz as we landed - in case we blew up or something. And because we landed with such weight, we had to let the tires cool down and be inspected before heading back to the terminal. So some 4 hours after our original departure, we got a whole new plane and tried again.

And now Iym here with 8 hours to kill before flying onto Rome. I've got some pictures from the landing with all the emergencz vehicles that I will post later.

Ciao.

Toronto Airport

Well, I've got a few hours to kill in the Toronto Airport, thought I'd get this blog off to a regular start. I have to fly to Frankfurt because I couldn't get a seat to Rome based on flying with points. So from Frankfurt I'm taking a cheap RyanAir flight to Rome. But when I got to Toronto I saw two Air Canada flights direct to Rome and thought just maybe I could get on one.

No Luck.

I'm a little surprised I made it. Didn't get home from Patrick's birthday Party until after 1 am last night, and then started to figure out what to pack. I still don't know if I have everything I need. But that's all part of the fun! I know I don't have toothpaste right now, but I don't really want to pay $15 for a small tube here in the airport. Airports are such a ripoff.

So my next problem will be accomodation. I fly into Rome kind of late on a Sunday evening, perhaps I should look online for a hostel. Otherwise I may just be sleeping in the Train Station. But I've slept in worse places, so no problem if I do. And then once I get to Perugia I have to find somewhere to stay for the month. I've found a few apartments online, but I can't afford to keep calling Italy from a cell-phone. Like I said, it will all work out....

Less than a week to go

Well, this trip has come together very last minute. I talked about it for months as if I was going, but didn't do much to plan it. Now I've booked it all and will be leaving in 6 days. Keep watching this space to hear about my adventures and see pictures of Italy!
